Learning train

In the year marked by the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the Vigezzina-Centovalli railway, the Ferrovie Autolinee Regionali Ticinesi (FART) is launching the initiative ‘A scuola sul treno: alla scoperta delle Centovalli’ (At school on the train: discovering the Centovalli). The aim is to strengthen the railway’s bond with the younger generations, the region’s kindergarten and primary schools pupils, who in future will be the first ambassadors of its history and uniqueness.

Trains and stations are transformed into dynamic classrooms, where travelling lessons become a means of exploring and learning about the region’s history. The initiative ‘At school on the train: discovering the Centovalli’ launched by FART as part of the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the Vigezzina-Centovalli was an immediate success. The invitation was extended to all kindergartens and primary schools in the region who were able to book a free trip on the train, with the possibility of getting off and getting back on along the way to visit one or more of the area’s attractions. In a short time, more than 800 teachers and pupils joined the initiative.
